I had heard the news of the murder while walking past a pawn shop window. Jerry the owner had called me in to help organize the storage area in the back. He didn't really need me to help but Jerry seemed to have a soft spot for guys like me and tried to help when ever he could. I had just gotten the five dollars he owed me and was about to walk out of the shop when a new headline streamed across the TV "A woman was found hanging from the Down Town connector bridge by her leg. Her body was cut open and her organs were missing." I couldn't help the chill that came over me. I was sure that is was girl that i had found in the park the night before. She was the first female of my kind that I had ever found, and instead of listening to my instincts that told me to make her stay I had let her go. I waved to goodbye to Jerry and walked through the door.
I was lost in thought as I made my way back to my alley. It was time to pack things up I had heard about an abandoned building on 23rd. This move would help me keep warm in the upcoming winter months and knowing this city this building would remain vacant for years. I gathered my pack that I had hidden behind the dumpster and made my way to 23rd.
I hoped the fence that was around the back of the building and found a broken window where I could get inside. I made my way up to the top floor and set up camp. Laying out the only blanket that I had and the meager amount of food in my possession. I didn't really smell any rodents but that didn't really matter they would be scared away by my predatory scent.
